Vice Presidential Booing

Well at least Philadelphia sports fans are an equal opportunity offender.  At Sunday night’s Giants vs. Eagles game, the fans let out a large boo when Vice President Elect Joe Biden was shown on the jumbotron sitting in the owners box.  If you remember Philly fans gave Sarah Palin a similar treatment a few weeks ago when she dropped the puck for the Flyers.  They also booed home town star Kobe Bryant at an all star game in Philadelphia a few years back.  So who in the world do Philly sports fans actually like?

Turns out probably no one.  Eagles fans also infamously threw snowballs at Santa Claus during a December 1968 game.  How in the world did this city get the name, “City of brotherly love?”  Maybe it should be renamed the “City of brotherly hate,”  or probably better the “City of we boo anybody, anytime, anyplace, anywhere.”

What did I do?

Is this the look every parent gets when they catch their child doing something very very very bad?  If so, I’m toast because it’s pretty hard to be mad when they look this cute.  Apparently, Bosley found a little mud in the back yard and decided he wanted to see what he would’ve looked like if he was a Chocolate Lab.

The “I told you so” post

So until November 5th, I will suspend all political discussion as it is now apparent who the winner will be and therefore not worth the finger strokes. And if by some miracle I am proven wrong I will gladly post my humble apologize on that day. Stay classy San Diego!!!! – Mike Ferrulli, September 6, 2008

Well my self imposed ban on election talk/debate has passed and things went exactly like I expected them to.  The next four years will show whether or not Obama can live up to the promises he’s made and the expectations people have for him as the 44th President of the United States of America.  On a side note, I am so glad this whole process is over.  I can now begin repairing friendships (can’t we all just get along) and hopefully 2009 will see me finding my way off the shunned list.

From Reagan to Obama…

I came across this blog entry from Donald Miller author of Blue Like Jazz and Searching for God Knows What. I found it to be a rather interesting read, and while I don’t agree with all of it, it does put into words my own personal journey.

My Journey from being a Reagan Republican to an Obama Democrat

I grew up in a Southern Baptist Church along the Gulf Coast in Texas. It was a suburban church nowhere near a bus line, protected as it were from most demographics that didn’t have our common interests. Those interests were embodied in the Republican Party, then led by President Ronald Reagan. Reagan captured our attention with an anti-communist, anti-atheist message, that was easy to understand, emboldening the American people against a clear threat, that of nuclear war and a godless communist regime. Reagan rode that same horse his entire career, even as an actor while President of the Screen Actors Guild, taking stands against blacklisted actors and directors thought to be sympathizers with communist ideology. The Democrats, on the other hand, were squishy, hard to understand, and believed life was complicated. They sounded intellectual and suspicious. Read more

Week Two of College Football

Let me just say, I really don’t like the fact that USC has a bye this week.  Just when I get geared up for the season, I have a down week.  With that being said, I have a few comments about the games so far this weekend.  First off, the Washington vs. BYU game had one of the worst calls I have ever seen.  Way to decide the game officials, I actually thought that was the players job.  Secondly, #3 Ohio State, better come prepared next week.  If they play USC like they played Ohio, it won’t be a close game.  And lastly, when did all these BCS teams start playing cupcakes to start the season.  I have a great idea, why don’t you actually play someone who is in your division.  I can’t wait for Georgia, LSU, etc. to start scheduling Community Colleges.  SEC the best conference in football…. HA!!!!
